major things to pray about:

1. The people of Chapel Hill - God is already at work there, pray that he is preparing people there for our arrival

2. All of us team members: that God would use the next nine months to prepare us for the ministry to which he has called us.

3. Recruiting more team members! Pray that God would be calling and convicting those whom He wants for this work. Pray that God would help us communicate the vision, and that He would use the vision to call people.

4. Financial Support: pray that God would raise up churches and individuals to support our team. May money never be something that distracts us from ministry, and may our use of money be a barometer of our hearts!

5. Vision: pray that God would sharpen our vision and give us the wisdom to put the vision into action.

Be sure and pray for Tim - he's having surgery on his elbow today (Tuesday) and will be out of work for a good while (in a splint for three months). This is a work-related injury, and the worker's comp insurance doesn't exist for convenience sake, so he's having to travel to KC for the surgery.
Thanks,
Matt

I had a phone conference with Larry Deal (my coach) yesterday. We talked about a number of things, and I am grateful for his wisdom and experience. Here are a few things for us as a team:

1. As team members, we need to use these next nine months to hone our evangelism skills. Work on building community with people who don't know Jesus and practice engaging in spiritual conversations with people. Look for metaphors to help share my (your) faith effectively.

2. Looking at our vision and goals (which we need to hone as well), what skills and gifts do you bring to the table? What will your role be when we get on site? Use these nine months to hone those skills as well.

3. www.kairoschurchplanting.org - Larry is going to set up an account for us so that people can give on line to support this church plant.

4. We need to be recruiting a prayer team who will be focused in prayer for us. If you know some prayer warriors, please sign them up!

Karios asked me to make a video about my family and vision that the Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro, Ark can show this Sunday in worship. This is a church that has committed $1M to church planting and is supporting Kairos. I put the video online on the blog page, you can check it out there. I'll work on another video that's longer and includes more about the team; this one had a time limit of 30 secs.

Pray for Tim following his surgery - I haven't heard any results yet.

Pray for team recruiting. There are 7-8 couples who are at least considering joining the team.

Pray for financial support. The Kairos folks are visiting with a couple of churches this week that are potential supporters for us.

God bless you all!
Matt

Well my main focus right now is finding employment and actually getting down to Chapel Hill. I'm working with a career coach in Cary, NC. So far, he seems to be a great guy. I'll be glad to share his contact information if anyone needs it. I'm learning a lot about myself taking a battery of vocation and personality tests. I'm a high D in DISC and an ENTJ in Myer's Briggs. I'm also working through 48 days to the work you love from Dan Miller http://www.48days.com. Keep me in your prayers. I'll keep you posted.

I’ll go first!

I am meeting via telephone with my coach next week to help me determine what I need to be doing regarding personal growth to be ready to lead the team.

Obviously, we need to be working on fund-raising simply to make it possible to be there!

We need to work as a team refining our vision and putting it in easily expressed format. This will also impact fund-raising.

Is anyone good at graphics? We’ll need to put together a brochure that we can send to potential supporting churches and individuals.

Where are you?

We have some friends moving to Raleigh, and they have a real estate agent there who sent them some real estate magazines. They're finding some more reasonably priced housing even in Chapel Hill - well under the $347,000 that the demographics above mentioned!

Dear Brothers:
I have been a member of North Star since July of 2001. I have enjoyed every second of my time here and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I have wonderful memories of my interaction with people who have become friends and family. I know that North Star will be used by God to do great things in the Plainfield area.
About six months ago, my brother, who is a Campus Minister at Kansas State University, approached Sheri and me about helping him plant a church in Chapel Hill, NC to reach people in and around the UNC campus. After thinking about it and praying about it, we decided to join him and his wife. Our role would be that of team members and volunteers. I will be looking for new employment in that area. It is our intention to be in place in Chapel Hill in March of this year.
I believe that God is calling my brother to start this church and that He’s letting Sheri and me and the kids be a part of his plan. We are terrified, but we are excited about what this can mean for God’s kingdom. I hope that you will send us off with your blessings as we work to spread the Gospel
In light of this move and because I need to concentrate on quickly finding a job, I am tendering my resignation from the Management Team effective at the end of tonight’s meeting.
As we’ve been through a transition in personnel, I would like to be clear that I have 100% confidence in our current leadership team and our staff, and I will continue to support you by my words and actions. I’m excited to see what God is going to do in Plainfield through all of you.
I love you all and wish you nothing but God’s best.
